I’ve always wondered why the round, bite-sized miniature morsels of carbohydrates (and all things fattening) are commonly referred to as doughnut holes. Obviously, they come from the center of the doughnut – their forced departure caused the hole in the center – but the hole is what was left behind.
So, simply put , the hole should be an absence of dough, right?
I suppose the doughnut hole was so named by the optimist.
“The optimist sees the donut, the pessimist sees the hole.”
